rsync

  • General. Use this to manually refresh the local directory with the contents of the remote directory
    • rsync -av username@remoteserver:fullpath localpath
    • adding or omitting the final "/" for the paths will change behavior
    • it will ask for password to use to establish the connection
    • if username is omitted, it will use the current login username (just as SSH)
  • Example 1. This command refreshes the CEHD dev web site on the CIS VM from Bruner when run on cisvm
rsync -avu --delete strader@bruner.cehd.tamu.edu:/disks/www/cehdweb/cehddev/ /disks/www/cehd-dev

ifconfig

  • Create new interface
    • This command will assign the new IP address to the machine and will set it as "UP"
    • ifconfig eth3:1 165.91.232.7 netmask 255.255.252.0
  • "GUI" to add device: system-config-network
  • ifup INTERFACENAME / ifdown INTERFACENAME

iptables

  • Linux firewall
  • Edit /etc/sysconfig/iptables to add a new allowed port
  • Restart iptables. /etc/init.d/iptables restart

List Installed Perl Modules

  • Module "ExtUtils::Installed" is required
  • From command line: instmodsh to bring up a menu/shell to do stuff
  • Inside "instmodsh" -- "list" is a menu option to choose
