This is the first in a series of weekly messages that will highlight a technology resource that is available in the College of Education and Human Development.  The first resource is Technology Services itself. Technology Services is made up of the three groups: Computer Support, Instructional Technology and Systems Administration.

 

Computer Support is responsible for the set up and maintenance of all office and administrative computers, software installation, and user accounts.

Instructional Technology is responsible for technology resources that are used in classroom instruction and for technology resources that are used to facilitate distance learning.

Prepare your data

1. Make sure each column has a heading. These column headings are used to name the fields in the PivotTable report (a field summarizes multiple rows of information from the source data).

2. Put similar data in each column. For example, text items in one column, numbers in another column, and dates in another column.

3. Remove any blank rows or columns.


Create the report

1. Select a cell or range of cells.

2. Click the Insert tab. In the Tables group, click the arrow on PivotTable, and on the menu, click PivotTable.
The Create PivotTable dialog box opens.

3. Select a table or range is already selected for you. The Table/Range box shows the range of the selected data.

Do you need to show graphically the relationship of your information? Use a relationship graphic. Here is how:

1. Open your word document, on the Insert tab, in the Illustrations group, click SmartArt.

2. In the Choose a SmartArt Graphic gallery, click Relationship, and then double-click the layout that you want.

3. To enter text in a shape, do one of the following:

4. Click [Text] in the Text pane, and then type your text.

5. Copy text from another location or program, click [Text] in the Text pane, and then paste your text.


Add Animation to your chart

You can use the new equation editing tools in Excel 2010 to insert common mathematical equations into your worksheets or build up your own equations by using a library of maths symbols. You can also insert new equations inside of text boxes and other shapes.

1. Click the Insert tab.

2. Click on the Symbols group.

3. Click the arrow next to Equation.

4. You may choose between Binomial Theorem, Area of Circle, Pythagorean Theorem, Quadratic formula, etc.
